Surf Camps

What better way for kids to learn how to surf, make new friends, build confidence, and gain knowledge and respect for the ocean than a week at surf camp! Our three day camp is guaranteed to get kids stoked on surfing! Whether an accomplished surfer or a first timer we will provide each camper with an experience he or she will never forget.

Camp Outline

Our camp is designed for kids ages 7-15. Each day will be packed with various activities and lessons ranging from surfing basics to ocean safety and marine life. Campers will learn about waves, currents, tides, coastal marine life, surf etiquette, different types of boards, board handling, paddling techniques, and how to ride waves! Our goal by the end of the week is to have kids paddling into and riding waves with the knowledge and respect for the ocean that it takes to become a real surfer.

Safety

With safety being our number one priority, we maintain a 4:1 student to instructor ratio, ensuring each camper gets the attention they need. All of our instructors are CPR/First aid certified and have years of experience in and around the ocean. We will assess the surf and weather conditions each morning and throughout the day to further ensure the safety of the camp.

Equipment

Equipment is provided by East of Maui. We use Surftech epoxy soft top surfboards ranging from 6 to 9 feet. Theses boards are great for learning and very forgiving on the body. If you have a surfboard of your own, you are welcome to bring it along although if you are just starting out we recommend you use one of our boards. We do not provide wetsuits. If the water is cold we suggest you purchase one. We have a full selection of suits from O'Neill and Rip Curl at a discounted price to all campers.

Transportation

In order to take advantage of the best surf conditions we have made our camp mobile! Each morning we'll choose a location that best coincides with the tide and surf conditions. Camp will be in the Delaware Seashore State Park between Tower Road and Indian River Inlet. Just drop your kids off at East of Maui and let us do the rest! Our 12 passenger bus is not only spacious and safe but fun to ride.

Food

Lunch and snacks are provided each day from local businesses. We'll have plenty of water, Gatorade and fresh fruit for everyone.

Unfavorable/inclement weather

There is no guarantee that we will have waves. Regardless of the conditions we 're going to make sure the campers are having fun. We have skimboards, bodyboards, stand-up paddleboards, kayaks, and beach games all courtesy of East of Maui. In the event that inclement weather keeps us off the beach we will have a make up day on Friday of the same week.

Bonfire!

To celebrate the end of the camp, all the campers and their families are invited to join us on the beach at St Louis st. for a bonfire and cookout. This is a Dewey Beach tradition! We'll have plenty of food and drink to go around as well as an award ceremony for all the campers.
